The 11th National Conference on Geosynthetics & International Symposium for the 40th Anniversary of the Association’s Founding was successfully held in Shijiazhuang from November 1st to 4th, 2024. The conference featured nearly 200 presentations, including plenary reports and parallel session reports, facilitating extensive technical exchanges on the latest research progress in the field of geosynthetics in China in recent years.
Plenary Session Keynote Reports at the Conference
- Academician Lu Chunfang, Member of the Presidium of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dean of the Department of Engineering Management, delivered a report titled “How to Leverage the Advantages of China’s High-Speed Rail”.
- Professor Zhan Liangtong from Zhejiang University presented a report on “Application of Geosynthetics in Industrial Solid Waste Fill Engineering – Technical Challenges and Development Trends”.
- Pan Jiangyang, Vice President and Chief Engineer of PowerChina Zhongnan Engineering Corporation Limited, gave a report on “Application of Geosynthetics in China’s Water Resources and Hydropower Sector”.
- Professor Jie Han from the University of Kansas, USA, who also serves as Treasurer of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), presented a report titled “Sustainable Construction of Resilient Roads with Geosynthetics”.
- Professor Li Guangxin from Tsinghua University delivered the Liu Zongyao Lecture titled “Remarks on Civil Engineering”.
- Professor Xu Chao from Tongji University presented a report on “Embodied Carbon in Geosynthetics and Life Cycle Carbon Emissions of Integrated Geosynthetic-Reinforced Soil Abutments”.
The conference presentations covered a wide range of topics, were brilliant and diverse, and received enthusiastic responses. The event provided a platform for experts, scholars, and professionals within the geosynthetics industry to showcase the latest research and application achievements, engage in sufficient and in-depth academic exchanges, and concluded with complete success.
